Sanya Malhotra was born on February 25, 1992, in Delhi, India. The actress belongs to a middle-class Punjabi Hindu family. Her father name Sunil Malhotra is an Engineer and her mother name Renu Malhotra is a homemaker. She also has an elder sister named Shagun Malhotra. Sanya studied at Ryan International School, Mayur Vihar, Delhi, and then graduated from Gargi College, University of Delhi, New Delhi.

Sanya Malhotra participated dance reality show Dance India Dance in 2013 but she fails the contest. Then she moved to Mumbai and started her acting career with several commercials ad.
The actress was selected for Nitesh Tiwari’s biographical sports drama film Dangal alongside Fatima Sana Shaikh. It was her debut film. The actress does not know wrestling so she learned wrestling from a formal wrestler Kripa Shankar Patel Bishnoi.
In 2016, the film released and breakthrough commercially all records and earned 280 million dollars. For that film, the actress won Jackie Chan Action Movie Awards and was also nominated for the News 18 Movie Awards.
In 2017, Sanya appeared in the film Secret Superstar song’s Sexy Baliye. One year later the actress worked Hindi comedy-drama film Pataakha which she played the role of Chhutki Kumari. In the same year, Sanya acted in another Bollywood comedy-drama film Badhaai Ho in the role of Renee Sharma.
Sanya released her Hindi romantic drama film Photograph in 2019 which she played the lead role of Miloni Shah, for that role she was nominated for Filmfare awards. IN 2020, the actress appeared in the comedy crime film Ludo in the role of Shruti Choksi along with Abhishek Bachchan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, and Fatima Sana Shaikh. The film aired on Netflix and become a hit.
In 2021, Sanya released the Hindi dark comedy-drama film Pagglait on Netflix in the role of Sandhya. At the same time, she also appeared in the film Meenakshi Sundereshwar in the role of Meenakshi, the film broadcasted on Netflix due to Covid 19. Her upcoming movie is Love Hoster.
