Stan Van Gundy is a popular American basketball coach, who is best known as a head coach for Miami Heat. Besides, he was an outstanding coach in some other prestigious basketball clubs such as the Orlando Magic and Detroit Pistons.

Early Life, Family & Education
The popular coach was born on August 26, 1959, in Indio, California, USA, to parents Bill Van Gundy and Cindy Van Gundy. He got his inspiration from his father. His father is the head basketball coach of the ‘State University of New York at Brockport basketball team.’ Gundy grew up in his hometown with his younger brother.
His younger brother Jeff Van Gundy is also the former coach of ‘Houston Rockets’ and ‘New York Knicks.’ Gundy studied at the ‘Alhambra High School’ and completed his graduation from there. Later he obtained a B.A. in English.
Stan Van Gundy Career
Stan Van Gundy began his career journey at the University of Vermont as an assistant coach. His outstanding coaching skills mesmerized everyone. Later he joined as the head coach at ‘Castleton State College.’ He won the title of ‘District 5 Coach of the Year’ in 1983.
After five years Gundy signed as a head coach at the University of Massachusetts Lowell for more than ten years. Next, he joined as an assistant trainer in Wisconsin Badgers and was soon promoted to the head coach position.
One of his best achievements was serving as a head coach in the Miami Heat.

Stan Van Gundy married Kimberly Van Gundy in 1988. They have four children Shannon, Michael, Kelly, Alison.
